For instance, often they won't hire to a young driver, licence or no licence, and I wonder if they have a top limit too. Worth checking in advance with the hire company. Yes - as France is an EU member state their driving licences are fully acceptable over here, as long as you're not permanently resident over here. Volkswagen . How to Change Oil on a Fiero GTThe Pontiac Fiero GT, like most cars, requires a constant circulation of motor oil to lubricate the internal components and prevent wear from metal-to-metal contact. As the oil wears out over time, it no longer provides full protection, causing accelerated wear. Replacing the oil regularly as outlined in the maintenance manual will help prevent this excessive wear from occurring. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Vehicle ramps Jack with stands Socket wrench Oil container Step by Step : 1 Drive the Fiero up onto ramps, or jack up the front end and support it using jack stands. Apply the parking brake and ensure the ignition is turned off. 2 Remove the plug on the oil pan using a socket wrench. Ensure a container is in place to catch the oil as it pours out. Allow it to completely drain, then replace the plug. 3 Find the oil filter. On a Fiero GT, it is positioned between the firewall and the catalytic converter. Depending on the angle you are working from, it can be difficult to see from beneath the car. Unscrew the filter and replace it with a new one. The correct size code for this vehicle is "PF52." 4 Pour 5 quarts of 10w-40 motor oil into the engine using the fill port located on top of the crank case. Take the old motor oil to a service station for recycling. Make a note of the current mileage so you know when to change the oil again. Tips & Warnings These instructions are for a Fiero GT. If yours is not a GT, it will require 4.3 quarts of oil instead of 5.
Volkswagen . How to Replace a 135 HP Evinrude Fuel PumpIf your Evinrude 135 outboard motor begins to choke or stall out and you smell the odor of fuel, it may mean that the fuel pump needs to be replaced. The fuel pump transfers gas from the engine to the carburetor. Over time the pump can become clogged with mud or other residue, or it can just wear out from age. If this happens you will have to change it. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Socket set Old rag Needle-nose pliers Marker Putty knife Replacement fuel pump Fuel pump gasket Gasket sealant Torque wrench Step by Step : 1 Remove your Evinrude's negative battery cable with a socket set. 2 Unclasp the fasteners holding your top motor cover in place and remove it. 3 Pull the spark plug wire with needle-nose pliers. Also use the needle-nose pliers to pull off the hoses attached to your fuel pump. Clean up any spilled gasoline with old rags. Mark the hoses to note the order in which they were plugged into the fuel pump. 4 Use a socket set to remove the bolts securing the upper section of the engine's power head. This will give you access to your fuel pump. 5 Remove the bolts that hold your old fuel pump in place with a socket set. Remove the old pump. Scrape away any gasket residue underneath it with a putty knife. Most replacement fuel pumps will come with the rubber gasket already attached. However, if yours does not, apply a small amount of gasket sealant to the gasket and attach it to the bottom of the new pump. 6 Insert the mounting bolts through the body of the new fuel pump. Continue threading the bolts into the mounting holes on your motor's power head until they are tight. 7 Replace the hoses to your fuel pump. Also replace the section of your motor's power head that you disassembled to access the fuel pump. 8 Replace your spark plug wire, set your motor cover back in place and fasten it down. Reattach your negative battery cable. Tips & Warnings Exercise all precautions when working near fuel. Don't smoke and don't work near open flames or sparks. Work in a well-ventilated area. *Unevenly or prematurely worn belts, tires, and hoses (You can find a whole list of symptoms in Chapter 20.) Part IV: Dealing with On-the-Road Emergencies If you can provide enough information to help the shop diagnose the trouble easily, you won't have to pay for test drives and electronic diagnostic procedures that may cost more than the simple adjustments or repairs that are necessary. u* Provide the clearest information you can regarding all the symptoms, but do not diagnose the problem yourself! If you tell a shop that your vehicle needs a specific job done on it, then that's the work that will be done, and you will pay for it, whether the vehicle needed it or not. If you want to inquire whether the trouble might be caused by a malfunction in a specific part, then do so, but keep it in the form of a question. The final diagnosis must be up to the repair shop so that it can be responsible if the diagnosis turns out to be wrong. *<* Keep a maintenance record on your vehicle and bring a photocopy for the shop's records if it hasn't done the past maintenance. I've provided a blank Maintenance Record and a Specification Record that you can use at the back of this book. V Don't press to get the job done fast unless you're really in a bind. 1004

A great way to get the pressure off everybody is to see whether the shop has a spare car, or loaner, that you can borrow while work is being done on your vehicle. u* Call to make sure that your vehicle is ready before you come to pick it up. If it isn't, try to be understanding (unless the shop is chronically slow about getting work done). If it's a matter of parts that were ordered but not delivered on time, there's little that the shop can do about it. If it's just that the shop is overbooked with work, be polite but firm about your need to get the vehicle back as soon as possible. V* When the vehicle is ready, ask what was wrong and what they did to repair the problem. Keep a repair log, and add the information to it for future reference. u* Be prepared to spend a little time test-driving to be sure that the job's been done to your satisfaction. You're better off returning immediately with your complaints than showing up several days later, when any number of things may have happened to mess things up. v* Show your appreciation for a job well done. A phone call to the manager or a letter that the shop can display, praising a technician's work, means a lot to a service facility. If you know that your favorite technician likes a particular beverage or snack, bring some along in a paper bag and pick your car up at the end of the day. If you're lucky, you may get invited to share it. I've received some of my most valuable tutoring strolling around a garage after working hours, can in hand, while my mechanic expounded on the secrets of his art. Chapter 22: When All Else Fails: Finding and Dealing with a Good Mechanic A/ l 7 Complaining Effectively Even if you've followed all my advice about finding good mechanics and staying on the best of terms with them, there's still a chance that someday you'll get into a dispute over the services they've performed. If you've maintained a good relationship with a shop, you'll usually find them willing to be cooperative about redoing work that fails to correct a problem, replacing defective parts they've installed, and the like. If you attack immediately on the assumption that they're out to get you, you'll put them on the defen sive and make things much harder for yourself. Getting satisfaction on any complaint I learned the following technique from an excellent human-potential trainer, and I pass it on to you. It's based on this "Golden Rule": The best way to get what you want is to maintain a friendly attitude in all disputes — and refuse to be swayed from your purpose! Follow these steps to get satisfaction: 1. Before you contact anyone, decide exactly what you want done. Presenting a specific plan for remedial action is much more powerful than waiting passively for someone else to decide what they're willing to do for you. 2. Time your campaign carefully.
